For many years I have planned parties and entertained family and friends, because I love the outcome - everyone having a good time and enjoying themselves. I planned my own wedding and found such great joy and rewarding feelings during the process. Many people talked about my wedding for years afterward, and have since then enlisted me to plan their wedding or party. Family and friends had encouraged me to plan as a profession, but I chose to go to college for nursing and became an RN. Nursing is very rewarding work as well. I have found the skills that I learned as a nurse are similar skills needed to be a wedding planner. First, you have to be able to multitask and stay organized. Second, you have to be quick at making critical decisions in crisis situations. Third, you have to be caring and thoughtful. Lastly, you have to be able to listen and communicate well with people. All these skills I have learned to master over the years, and now I use them in my career as a wedding planner and business owner. I enjoy the whole aspect of planning and the wedding industry so much that when the opportunity arose to start my own business, encompassing the whole bridal experience, I jumped at the chance. A good day at work is when I have helped a woman select a dress that she loves and she buys it. Sometimes it is a challenge to get a woman to verbalize what she is looking for and it is rewarding at the end when I can give her what she wants. - Monica Buckner, Owner
